Athletes and Teams
Prince Edward Island is an ideal climate for people venturing into multisports. We have breathtaking landscapes, rolling hills and warm water to perfect your swim, bike, run, or various combinations of these disciplines.
TriPEI is here to support athletes in achieving their multisport goals – whether your aim is the Olympic or Paralympic podium, Ironman Championships or taking your first steps toward completing your first triathlon.
Race Series
There will be a male and female point series and the male and female winner for each race will set the standard for that race. The winner’s times will be used along with each athlete’s finish time to award points for that race. All sanctioned events are eligible for race series points.
Paratriathlon
Para-triathlon is an emerging sport, and was only recently included in the Paralympic program – in 2016 at the Rio games. Triathlon is a rare sport in which able-bodied athletes compete side-by-side with impaired athletes at both the national and international levels. There are five sport classes for para-athletes, and International Triathlon Union sanctioned para-triathlon events include the 750m sprint swim, 20km bike (hand bike/tandem) and 5km run (racing wheelchair).
High Performance
TriPEI, in close collaboration, and in full alignment with Triathlon Canada, strives to ensure sustained competitive excellence embracing both, a systems-based approach and a winning focused approach, to provide a critical understanding of a high performance development pathway.

Age Group
An age-group athlete or para-athlete is an amateur athlete 16 years or older. Age-groupers are categorized according to gender and age bracket (16-19, 20-24, 25-29, etc.). The word “amateur” may be misleading: some age-groupers have their sights on earning a spot in the Age-Group Team Canada world championships or turning Pro.
Youth/Junior
Youth (12-15) & Junior (16-19) : Providing development and competition opportunities for youth and junior age athletes is a key goal of Triathlon PEI. We would encourage youth and juniors to transition into age group and elite competitions such as Canada Games and World Championship Events.
Kids of Steel
KIDS OF STEEL (KOS) triathlons are designed to offer youth the opportunity to experience the sport of triathlon in a positive environment. The distances are much shorter than those in adult triathlons, and change as participants mature.
New to Triathlon?
A triathlon is a multiple-stage competition involving the completion of three continuous and sequential endurance activities. While many variations of the sport exist, the most popular form involves swimming, cycling and running over various distances. Triathletes compete for fastest overall course completion time, including timed “transitions” between the individual swim, cycle and run components. There is something for everyone, but careful — triathlon is addictive!
